Join to apply for the Recovery Registered Nurse - PAE Clinic role at Urology San Antonio Position Purpose The Recovery Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive pre‑and post‑procedure care to patients undergoing Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE) and related interventional services. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and coordinates patient care from preparation through recovery and discharge. This role ensures safe, high‑quality, and patient‑centered care in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Position Reports To Director of Clinical Operations / Clinical Leader Position Supervises Licensed Vocational Nurse, Certified Medical Assistant, and other unlicensed assistive personnel as assigned. Degree Of Supervision Provided To Position Medium. Must be self‑directed and work under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Physician. Required Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in procedural sedation, critical care, and perioperative nursing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) (active). Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (active). Strong knowledge of recovery protocols, patient monitoring, and emergency interventions. Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or advanced nursing degree. Experience in interventional radiology or outpatient surgical environments. Prior experience in urology, endoscopy, or outpatient procedural care. Bilingual/Spanish. Internal Relationships (Works Closely With) Patients, families, Interventional Radiologist, Radiologic Technicians, Recovery Nurses, Medical Assistants, and other clinical staff. Must demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and teamwork in all interactions. Job Requirements Skills and Abilities Ability to assess and monitor patients during post‑anesthesia and post‑procedure recovery. Ability to correlate clinical data with patient status and recovery needs. Ability to set priorities, delegate appropriately, and provide clear direction to others. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice. Clinical Responsibilities Pre‑Procedure Count controlled substances with a second RN at the start of the day. Quality check patient monitoring equipment (monitors, BP cuffs, pumps) in patient rooms. Evaluate patients and complete the first page of the Patient Pre‑Post Procedural Document. Place IVs in patients. Review procedural and sedation consent forms with patients. Review discharge instructions with patients and accompanying persons. Participate in morning huddles with the IR team to review cases, including allergies, comorbidities, and other relevant information. Call patients 1–2 weeks ahead of time to review pre‑procedure instructions (shared responsibility with Sedation RN). Post‑Procedure / Recovery Care Assist in transporting patients back to the recovery room. Monitor and document vitals and vascular access: q15 mins × 2, q30 mins × 1, and more as needed based on closure and patient status. Provide emotional support and education to patients and families. Review and clarify discharge instructions with responsible parties. Provide patients with information on implanted devices (e.g., closure and embolics). Ensure proper functioning of recovery equipment (oxygen, suction, monitors). Monitor surgical/procedure sites, dressings, drains, catheters, and IV lines. Respond to emergencies and initiate ACLS/PALS/BLS protocols as needed. Coordinate care to ensure readiness for discharge, including verification of orders and documentation. Complete post‑discharge follow‑up calls per facility policy. Coordinate transfer to higher level of care if required. Product And Inventory Management Monitor nursing inventory and check expiration dates regularly in collaboration with the Sedation RN and Lead MA. Team Collaboration Collaborate with physicians, radiology staff, and nursing colleagues to ensure safe and efficient workflow. Support cross‑functional clinical needs as assigned. Provide mentorship, guidance, and coverage to other team members when needed. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff development. Teamwork, Accountability, And Service Excellence Provide accurate, timely hand‑off reports and documentation. Adhere to facility attendance and punctuality policies. Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor. Assume charge responsibilities when assigned. Participate in orientation, mentoring, and education of new staff. Contribute to a positive and collaborative recovery environment.
