Job Description The Forensic Wildland Fire Investigator is responsible for determining the origin, cause, and development of wildland fires through detailed on‑scene investigations and forensic analysis. This role combines field‑based fire scene examination with scientific and technical knowledge. Core Responsibilities Respond to wildland and interface fires to conduct systematic origin and cause determinations. Apply accepted methodologies (e.g., NFPA 921 and 1033 standards) for scene documentation, evidence collection, and analysis. Identify ignition sources, fire spread patterns, fuel conditions, and weather influences. Conduct laboratory or field analyses of physical evidence related to ignition and fire behavior. Prepare comprehensive written investigative reports, diagrams, and digital imagery. Maintain accurate evidence custody and documentation. Testify as an expert witness in court proceedings and administrative hearings. Present clear, scientifically supported findings to attorneys and juries. Pay Range $80,000 to $120,000 base pay.
