Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to direct activities of workers concerned with pouring and finishing of concrete structures.

The incumbent must have the ability and flexibility to work varying shifts and long hours (8-12 hours). Weekend work and extra hours occur according to production needs and at the discretion of the Supervisor.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Studies project specification and drawings to plan procedures for construction on a basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of concrete pours, based on knowledge of available tools and equipment and various concrete finishing methods.
  • Orders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Confers with and directs personnel, general contractor representatives and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of concrete pouring and finishing to prevent delays.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives (if applicable) to resolve complaints and grievances within work force.
  • Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to.
  • Prepares, or receives from subordinates, reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
  • Workers are usually designated according to type of project, work, or construction activity directed.
  • Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long lasting use.

  • Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of (5) years’ experience on Concrete construction projects in increasingly more responsible field supervisory capacity. Ability to read and interpret construction documents required. Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, and ability to manage large groups. The successful candidate must have exemplified leadership and high-level decision-making abilities. Basic computer literacy is needed.

In addition, the incumbent must have:

  • Excellent organization skills to effectively oversee all aspects of the project.
  • Ability to hold their crews accountable for safe work practices and work performance excellence.
  • Foresight to avoid potential problems before they arise.
  • Have a conscientious attitude towards controlling job costs and adhering to project schedules.
  • Ability to influence and motivate their work crews.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver License with a reasonably clean Driving Record.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate and executive.

The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
