Reports to Senior Assistant Director, Prospect Research. The Senior Research Analyst focuses on major, principal, and transformational gift prospect identification for the Division of Philanthropy, a large fundraising office that raises over $400M annually in support of cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Senior Analyst also conducts due diligence research on new and existing donors, ensuring that all prospects are reputationally and ethically consistent with Dana-Farber’s mission. The Senior Analyst and the Prospect Research team support the entire Division in reaching financial goals. The onboarding of this position will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, and hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role. Identify prospects for major, principal, and transformational gift pipelines using data mining and other prospecting techniques. Oversee the screening of new patient and unassigned donor populations and prioritize leads for verification by Prospect Identification team. Collaborate with colleagues to improve efficiency and effectiveness of screening processes. Make strategic assignment recommendations based on department guidelines, gift officer portfolio needs, and the Institute’s priorities. Monitor planned solicitations and new gift transactions to ensure due diligence standards are being followed. Serve as a liaison to the Philanthropy Due Diligence Committee as needed. Create concise, accurate, and timely research products using biographical information, financial data, news, and philanthropic history, while adhering to professional standards such as an individual's fundamental right to privacy and protecting the confidential information of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Participate in fundraising strategy meetings, when appropriate. Assist with occasional research as needed for other Philanthropy partners, including Dana-Farber's President and its Chief Philanthropy Officer. Track and disseminate news and information about Dana-Farber, advances in cancer research and treatment, and top donors and prospects. Continuously build on fundraising and prospect research knowledge and skills by reading relevant publications; participating in internal/external trainings and workshops; shadowing colleagues; exploring new products and tools; and exchanging ideas and information with teammates.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

N/A Bachelor’s Degree required; 3-5 years direct or comparable experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Ability to work independently and as part of a team; superior communication, organizational, project management, writing, and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and to meet deadlines. The Prospect ID team works in a fast-paced environment providing a quick turnaround of its products. The Senior Analyst must apply creative thinking, curiosity, focus, and persistence in pursuit of prospect information. He/she/they should be capable of interpreting complex documents, including corporate proxy statements and insider stock filings. Also essential are expert writing skills, as reports and briefings prepared in Prospect Research are used by Dana-Farber’s President, its Chief Philanthropy Officer, and other senior Philanthropy staff. The Senior Analyst must also be able to identify and adapt to shifting priorities, be flexible and resourceful, and exercise professionalism and discretion in working with confidential information. Technical Skills: Superior skills in Microsoft Office applications; expertise in broad range of search techniques; knowledge of prospect research resources such as Lexis-Nexis for Development Professionals, Foundation Directory, iWave, and Relationship Science; familiarity with relational databases and reporting tools; experience with data mining is a plus. This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify the donors and participants for the events assigned in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events. Experience with diverse donors is a plus.
