Description Senior Design Director – Men’s (On-Site) The Senior Design Director leads the design of private merchandise within assigned areas to maximize sales and profits and to achieve the company’s strategic goals. Primary Responsibilities: Collaborates with Sourcing, Merchandising, Product Development, as well as assigned teams in the design of private brand merchandise to ensure communication is clear and execution of key strategies are achieved. Identifies and makes recommendations of process improvements to the design process that when implemented can positively affect the division and Company. Holds responsibility for budget, and allocates resources within the organization, such as materials, sample costs, travel, etc. Ensures team reviews competitive landscape to identify market share opportunities and drive category dominance. Determines the brand's seasonal fashion direction and directs the creation of original concepts that encompass style, color, print, pattern, and fabric. Ensures that the collection meets the fashion and quality requirements consistent with the brand profile. Oversees the initiation of product packages through the technical design team. Communicates the brand business strategy to other design divisions and to senior management in product management and merchandising. Shops print studios and fabric mills to define print direction for the season and develop fabric, yarn, and trim strategies appropriate for the brand. Travels as needed, shops appropriate markets, and works with the trend office and product and design team to conceptualize the product design for the season. Directs the development and makes seasonal merchandise presentation of proposed designs, including boards, original or prototype samples, and other visuals. Oversees the approval of strike-offs, handlooms, and knit-downs, and all approvals for fit, style, and construction. Provides leadership, management, and development of the staff and leadership to the Division through product category expertise. Develops and ensures adherence to the Seasonal Time and Action Calendar. Core Competencies & Accomplishments: College degree in fine arts or design, or equivalent work experience in a design-related field preferred. 12 – 15 years' experience in design product and fabrication knowledge; emphasis on collection. Working knowledge of the technical aspects of the assigned category. Well versed in print and pattern. Experience designing around concepts and flat sketches. Proven technical and computer skills. High taste level. Strong ability to work in and motivate a team with high energy and enthusiasm. Strong business acumen.
