Position Description
Full cycle accounting role for a portfolio of properties requiring analyzing and reporting on all accounting matters. Serve as the financial expert and primary facilitator of all financial matters, providing accurate and timely financial information to internal departments and external clients.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, analyze, and audit all aspects of the general ledger to ensure accuracy of transactions and investigate and resolve discrepancies with property management staff, if necessary.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries to the general ledger as needed.
  • Review and update recurring journal entries monthly for accuracy prior to posting.
  • Analyze monthly GAAP financial statements and prepare supporting schedules as required.
  • Perform daily and/or monthly cash management responsibilities, including wire transfers, cash projections, and invoice processing.
  • Calculate and process monthly management and accounting fees for payment.
  • Process monthly mortgage, escrow payments, and other recurring payables.
  • Responsible for paying Real Estate Taxes and Insurance for the assigned portfolio.
  • Monitor security deposit cash monthly, ensuring all accounts are fully funded.
  • Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Review invoice coding to fixed asset accounts to verify legitimate capital items.
  • Analyze and true up prepaid expenses and operating accruals monthly for assigned properties.
  • Audit and ensure accuracy of subsidiary reports, reconciling to the general ledger, such as Rent Roll, AP Aging, Open Status Report, and Security Deposit Ledger.
  • Assist with portfolio annual budgets.
  • Prepare audit work paper packages for external year-end audits.
  • Provide excellent service to Project Managers, Portfolio Managers, Regional Managers, and external clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in MS Excel required; experience with property management accounting software, preferably Yardi.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter with problem-solving skills and minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, courteous and professional at all times.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently or as part of a team.
  • Adaptability to changing demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 3-5 years of residential real estate accounting experience, preferably in affordable housing settings.
