This position serves as a personal guide, and liaison for individuals with substance use disorders identified in WVU Health System affiliated treatment settings. The recovery coach supports patients by assisting them with identifying treatment needs, developing, maintaining, and monitoring individualized treatment plans, and supporting patients to remain in treatment. The recovery coach’s duties include providing outreach, support, recovery check-ups on site in treatment settings, in the community and functioning as part of a treatment team. Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, completion of state or nationally recognized Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification training with a minimum of 40 hours in Ethics, Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, and Recovery/Wellness Planning, WVCBAPP Peer Recover Certification upon hire, and required background checks. Preferred qualifications include a valid driver’s license, CCAR Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department certificate, and active participation in recovery for two or more years. Core duties include working actively with patients with Substance Use Disorders, mentoring individuals, meeting face to face or by phone, developing and monitoring individualized plans, providing information to treatment teams, linking patients to resources, serving as a liaison to supports, maintaining relationships with treatment staff and agencies, and assisting patients in crisis. Physical requirements include ability to sit or stand for long periods and lift 10-15 pounds. The work environment may include exposure to noxious odors, viruses, diseases, infections, and traumatic situations. Skills required include knowledge of treatment resources, compliance with safety procedures, HIPAA training, excellent communication and customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, goal setting, teamwork, and basic computer skills.
