Summary: Under the supervision of the Community Health & Nutrition Manager, Nutrition Educators will provide localized nutrition and health education in a variety of community settings and environments. Following company and State-instituted policies and curriculum, Nutrition Educators will work to identify partners and opportunities to connect with neighbors in need and provide nutrition and health education relevant to the needs and strategies identified for their assigned Counties. Nutrition Educators will assist in the development of nutrition materials, recipes, cooking demonstrations and videos, and other materials needed to reach targeted audiences. Nutrition Educators will be responsible for tracking and reporting required data and feedback from classes and other community interactions and will continuously participate in program improvement and strategic planning.

About the Organization: As a member of Feeding America, and a United Way Member Agency, Feeding the Gulf Coast works through member organizations and special programs to provide nutritious food to meet the challenge of feeding people who are hungry as a result of systemic poverty, personal crisis, or disaster. Additionally, Feeding the Gulf Coast educates the public regarding domestic hunger, proper nutrition and other related issues. Feeding the Gulf Coast serves a 24-county area spanning south Alabama, south Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of Nutrition Education Programs into appropriate Programs sites and other Agency Partners and other health care partner programs.
  • Collaborate with the Community Health & Nutrition team and other Feeding the Gulf Coast programs to provide localized nutrition education and healthy nudges programming across the food bank’s network and in partnership with community partners and the mobile market, primarily focused in the food bank’s Florida Panhandle service area.
  • Communicate with the Community Health & Nutrition Manager and team to procure and distribute relevant nutrition nudges, recipes, and other program materials and to implement sustainable policies and protocols.
  • Effectively utilize internal comprehensive database tracking statistical information on nutrition programs.
  • Assist in the development of tasty, healthful and cost-effective recipes suitable for use in nutrition programs and distribution to food pantries and kitchens.
  • Facilitate cooking demonstrations, including food preparation, at community events and partner sites.
  • Build and enhance relationships with agencies. Engage and recruit community partners and the general public in Feeding the Gulf Coast’s Community Health & Nutrition program and strategy through presentations. Serve as liaison to community resources for the food bank.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition, nutrition science, dietetics or a related field, Associate’s Degree in nutrition, nutrition science, dietetics or a related field, or High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and four to six years related experience and/or certification; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid and current driver’s license. Must be able to pass a Background Check, Motor Vehicle Records Check, and Drug Test. ServSafe Manager certification is a plus.
