Industrial Equipment Reliability Technician

Picture the start of your shift: you walk the line, listen for changes in a gearbox’s pitch, scan the CMMS for open work orders, and get hands-on with the equipment that keeps production humming. You’ll balance planned maintenance with fast, safe responses to breakdowns—always looking for the small adjustments that prevent the next big interruption.

What you’ll do in a typical day

• Perform entry- to mid-level reactive and preventive maintenance to keep machines operating at peak performance.
• Tune and adjust mechanical components and control instruments; repair or replace worn or failed parts; recondition light machine tooling.
• Source needed parts, supplies, and repair materials to complete work efficiently.
• Support teammates and step in as departmental backup when leadership requests.
• Work with awareness of current maintenance industry standards and best practices.
• Uphold 5S practices and strong housekeeping in and around your work area.
• Contribute to continuous improvement (CI) efforts—process tweaks, measurable results, and cost savings.
• Set up and run basic machining operations (lathe, drill press, grinder) to fabricate/repair simple parts; perform basic welding as needed.
• Document work thoroughly, update records, and review history in the CMMS.
• Diagnose simple control-system circuitry issues and perform basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Pursue technical self-study to advance your capability and career.
• Follow all safety policies and technical instructions; maintain strong situational awareness and call out unsafe acts or conditions.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• Associate degree in a technical discipline or 18+ months of related industrial experience or successful completion of the ATS Technician Progression Program.
• Working knowledge of fundamental mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to perform hands-on repairs.
• Comfortable and competent using standard hand tools.

Physical demands and environment

• Frequent standing and walking; regular use of hands/fingers; reaching with hands and arms.
• Climbing, ascending/descending, or balancing at heights requiring a ladder or lift.
• Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling in tight areas; clear verbal communication and hearing required.
• Occasional sitting.
• Occasional lifting or moving of items over 50 pounds.
• Regular need for close and color vision.
• Occasional exposure to weather and risk of electrical shock.
• Work primarily in a loud factory setting with potential exposure to hazardous materials and greasy or slippery floors.
