THE POSITION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of responsible clerical and technical duties such as the processing, hiring, onboarding and retaining of personnel, including the maintenance of records, files and reports in the Human Resources Department.

CURRENT OPENING: One 12 month/40 hours per week position. Salary placement will be on Range 20 of the Confidential Salary Schedule "C." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($24.19 per hour) of this salary range.

Essential Duties

  • Processes personnel actions taken by hiring authority.
  • Prepares and uploads all employee information for Board of Education agenda.
  • Inputs and maintains employee data into District computer system using district and county databases.
  • Creates and maintains various records and files related to personnel functions.
  • Calculates seniority information and enters data into various automated and manual systems.
  • Provides information to employees and the general public in person or over the telephone.
  • Maintains and monitors substitute system using substitute fulfillment software, and prepares reports accordingly.
  • Administers and monitors the skin test notification.
  • Administers and monitors electronic employee performance evaluation program.
  • Receives and processes certificated employment applications, employment verifications and absence affidavits.
  • Prepares requisitions for supplies, equipment and personnel actions.
  • Conducts reference check and onboarding process for all new employees.
  • Administers live scan for new employees.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
  • Relieves District's receptionist during absences as assigned.
  • Performs general clerical duties such as answering phones and typing as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS AMONG RELATED CLASSES
A Human Resources Assistant performs a variety of responsible clerical and technical duties such as the processing, hiring, onboarding and retaining of personnel, including the maintenance of records, files and reports.


A Personnel Technician performs specialized clerical and technical duties involved with the development and processing of recruitment, examination, compensation, and other classified personnel activities.


A Senior Human Resources Assistant performs high-level specialized clerical and technical duties related to personnel transactions, including creating and generating personnel reports, compiling and entering workshop attendee and consultant information for Board of Education approval, and coordinating events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in this classification sit for a long period of time, stand, walk, use fingers repetitively, use wrists or hands repetitively in a twisting motion or while applying pressure, use both hands simultaneously, have rapid mental and muscular coordination, speak clearly, hear normal conversation, see small details, use a computer and a telephone.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work inside for the majority of time, in direct contact with the public and other District employees, with a high volume of work and continuously changing priorities and interruptions.

Minimum Qualifications


Education:
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.


Experience:
Two years of clerical experience. Some HR experience is desirable.

Ideal candidates will have

General Information
The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of an application screening, initial screening of qualifications, documentation/certification screening, and in some instances supplemental application screening. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on the eligibility list, which depending on the classification, may be in force for six months or one year.

Paid Holidays
Up to 16 holidays per year depending on months worked for all classified employees.

Paid Vacation
Vacation is prorated for all classified employees, based on the hours and months worked per year. Below is the vacation schedule for classified supervisors and classified staff.

Classified Employee Vacation Chart
1-5 years of service
  • One day of vacation will be earned per month worked.
6-10 years of service
  • One and one-quarter (1 ¼) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
11-15 years of service
  • One and one-half (1 ½) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
16-20 years of service
  • One and three-fourths (1 ¾) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
21 + years of service
  • Two (2) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.

Health Benefits
For positions 35 hours or more per week the District contributes $12,900 (subject to change) toward annual premium for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Partially paid benefits are available for part-time (20-34) hour employees. The District participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.

The following benefit providers are available for enrollment for eligible employees.

*Medical: Kaiser, United Health Care PPO/HMO
*Dental: Delta Dental (PPO) or DeltaCare USA (HMO)
*Vision: Vision Service Plan (VSP)
*Out of pocket costs are dependent on which provider is selected. Each provider has a different annual premium.

Paid Sick Leave
Every regular classified employee, probationary or permanent, can earn paid sick leave credit(s) based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit. Full-time classified employees (those who work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and 12 months per year) will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave credit(s) during each fiscal year.
