Major Duties:

1. Oversees plans and directs the activities for the unit, ensuring that business objectives are being met.
2. Manages and oversees the financial and operational plans and processes for the business unit.
3. Oversees and reports data to senior management.
4. Maintains risk management and compliance programs and activities for the unit.
5. Makes staffing decisions, manages expenses and salary review process for the unit.
6. Participates in developing the division’s strategic plan and sets goals and priorities based on the direction set for the unit; follows through to ensure that objectives are met.
7. Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork and communication.
8. Oversees any acquisition activity, including participating in and coordinating local due diligence and integration activities across functions.
9. Coordination of space and location strategy across business unit.
10. Manages business unit budget and tracking.
11. Directs the development of programs, policies and practices, and corporate/administration services to enhance partner needs and relationships.
12. Responsible for overseeing the employee engagement aspects of Driving Performance including enterprise talent management and succession planning change management.
13. Leads new products business plans designed to expand the group’s service offering targeted for clients and market segments.
14. Leads other strategic projects as directed by business unit head.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of business strategy development to provide long term planning and to manage profitability performance.
• Knowledge of Northern Trust global business structure and various business segments.
• Extensive business experience and broad functional expertise, with focus on proactive strategic leadership.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment.

Experience:

A College or University degree is preferred and/or relevant work experience in a financial services industry is required. Related industry qualifications are preferred.
