HQ Winery is a boutique winery out of Yountville, California, that specializes in crafting ultra-premium wines from a multitude of the most renowned vineyards in the Napa Valley and surrounding areas. As a team led by 100-point winemaker, Russell Bevan, we focus on producing high end Bordeaux varietal wines for our 3 different labels (Elyse Winery, Addax Wines, Institution Winery)
Position Summary
As a Seasonal Harvest Cellar Staff member at HQ Winery, one will play a key role in supporting the winemaking team throughout the harvest season. One's responsibilities will span from grape crush to fermentation and barrel aging. Working closely with experienced cellar staff, learning the intricacies of the winemaking process while performing essential tasks that contribute to the production of our high-quality wines. We offer the ability to be a part of a team that works closely together and learns from each other about all aspects of wine production.
Essential Functions
This position encompasses all aspects of the harvest time winemaking process. We believe in well rounded aspiring winemakers.
Operate various stations at the crush pad, including monitoring the crusher/distemper, operating presses, pumps, sorting tables, and emptying bins.
Assist in moving juice and must into fermentation tanks, monitoring fermentation progress (brix & Temp), performing pump-overs, punch-downs, racking, weighing out and adding fermentation nutrients.
Manage barrel aging activities, including washing, sulfuring, filling, topping, and moving barrels.
Cellar Maintenance
Maintain cleanliness throughout the cellar, monitoring supplies and assisting with equipment maintenance.
Comply with safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions immediately.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist the winemaking team in any other tasks as needed to ensure the harvest runs smoothly.
Contribute to maintaining a safe, efficient, and organized work environment.
Necessary Skills
Language Skills:
Ability to speak and understand basic English. Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports or instructions.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using standard units of weight, volume, and distance.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to adapt to changes in routine and solve basic issues with minimal supervision.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer proficiency, including email, internet, word processing. Ipad experience is a plus.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
High school diploma or GED; or 1-3 months related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A valid Driver's License and insurable driving record may be required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Manual dexterity to handle tools, equipment, and materials.
Adequate stability and balance to work in elevated or narrow spaces.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings with fluctuating temperature and weather.
Work Environment
Indoor and Outdoor: Exposure to hot, cold, and wet conditions.
High noise levels and possible exposure to fumes/chemicals. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
