Job Description
The Flight Follower works closely with internal TGH staff, pre-hospital fire and EMS services, law enforcement hospital personnel, and physicians across Florida to facilitate efficient and swift acute care transportation. The role plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and successful patient outcomes. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Responsibilities include : To answer and maintain six recorded phone lines; to receive all incoming EMS unit reports coming to TGH via phone and radio; to coordinate all inbound and outbound air traffic to the TGH heliport via radio; to notify the Emergency Department of incoming EMS and Air traffic; to activate the Trauma, Stroke and Cardiac teams to provide fast, efficient patient care; to receive and coordinate all Pre-hospital and Inter-facility transport request; primary contact to provide air medical assets for Manatee, Hillsborough, Highlands, Harvey, DeSoto and Charlotte Counties; to dispatch all five Aeromed aircraft using Flight Vector CAD system; to track and perform primary flight following of all five aircraft using satellite based flight following and radio/verbal communication every 10 minutes during flight; to aide in flight following other agency aircraft when requested; to maintain an accurate log of flight requests, patients transported, maintenance, and patient status in-house; to operate and monitor Radio Systems that consist of 3 med channels and 8 air traffic channels; to initiate overdue/missing aircraft and Post-Accident Incident Plan (PAIP) procedures, emergency procedures, hurricane, and disaster procedures, as well as unusual circumstance documentation; to coordinate additional transportation needs of flight crew by ground unit; to coordinate with other hospitals to ensure safe landing zone, to obtain the need for additional equipment for specialty Neonatal, Intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation flights; to notify and arrange for additional specialty staff to accompany flight crew when appropriate; to obtain accurate patient information; to locate GPS coordinates utilizing mapping software and provide to flight team; to notify TGH security of all air traffic to ensure helipad safety; to arrange for after hour fuel needs throughout the state; to assist flight crew with patients when requested; to provide flight crew with legal documentation of times and patient demographics; to coordinate communication activities in a stressful environment calmly and collectively and in a timely, systematic, and professional manner. Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
Emergency Medical Technician Certification required.
AHA BLS certification required.
Two (2) years of flight operations or dispatch experience.
Proficiently utilizes systems/equipment in the department to include but not limited to radios, flight computer aided dispatch software, mapping software, and Aviation Vender Operational Control Center Software.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task and provide data entry
General knowledge of medical terminology
Requires higher level of troubleshooting skills related to flight tracking and related software
Acts as resource for operational insight and knowledge for specialty, scene, and interfacility flights and navigating Post-Accident Plan (PAIP) to completion. Tampa General Hospital
