The Fire Investigator will travel to various sites to determine the origin and causes of fires related to buildings, vehicles, and equipment. Essential Functions Travel to assignment(s) to investigate fire sites Investigate origin and cause of fire Provide results of findings based on site investigation Conduct ethical practices consistently Essential Skills for Performing the Job Self-motivated Verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively Detail-oriented Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent Postsecondary education preferred but not required Five or more years of experience in origin and cause investigation Other Requirements Certified Fire Investigator - International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator - National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI) Valid Driver’s License in good standing, and demonstrated safe driving habits S/he must be able to pass a background check as required for the position Position Type/Expected Hours This may be a part-time or full-time position. Some flexibility in hours is permitted, but s/he must be available during the standard work hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (for full-time positions). Some overnight travel may be required. Physical Demands This position is a combination of field work, travel-related work, and sedentary work. An employee is regularly required to drive, stand, sit, walk, reach, type, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 pounds. An employee may also be required to traverse wooded and/or uneven terrain, enter structures, use ladders, walk on roofs, enter small spaces, and work in various weather conditions. Travel Regular travel will be required as a part of the Fire Investigator job.
