Job Description

SciensBuilding Solutions is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Systems Technician with programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting capabilities and experience. This position will work closely with our sales team, field project teams, and clients to ensure a sound design, and seamless installation and commissioning of our fire alarm solutions. This is a key position for our growing team and requires attention to detail in all aspects of executing projects. Customer and employee interface requires a high degree of effective human relations. Communication skills, both verbal and written, are important elements of the position. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (and doing well!) Review system layouts and coordinate with engineering, project management, and sales departments for successful project execution. Produce field surveys and daily project logs of activity. Program and commission complex fire alarm systems leading to final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). Produce detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA standards. Perform complex troubleshooting and effective resolution. Deliver projects on schedule and within budget. Assist in overseeing project and vehicle inventory. Provide support, guidance, and expertise to other technicians. Assist in managing job scheduling and progress efficiently and cost-effectively, with a focus on quality. Demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers, explaining proper use and responses to system signals. Comply with industry procedures and Sciens safety policies.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU

High school diploma or equivalent. 2-5 years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety industry. Ability to program and commission mid-range fire alarm systems independently. Ability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision. Effective communication and coordination with onsite contractors. Intermediate understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting for circuit issues. Intermediate computer skills related to software installation and use. Knowledge of NFPA 72 code requirements, International Fire Code Section 907, International Building Code Section 909, and Article 760 of NFPA 70. State, local, or product-specific certifications as required. Ability to read fire system design drawings. Ability to work under tight deadlines and independently with some supervision. Knowledge of OSHA standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification. Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills. Physical fitness to perform demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, and climbing ladders. Ability to travel occasionally overnight. Pass background check and pre-employment drug screening. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
