Summit County Public Health is seeking an Environmental Health Coordinator to work full time (35 hours per week) in our Solid Waste Program, Monday through Friday. The Environmental Health Coordinator in the Solid Waste Program plays a key role in protecting community health by managing permit and licensing requirements for all solid waste and construction/demolition debris (CDD) facilities. This position offers the opportunity to work independently and collaboratively while conducting facility assessments, inspections, compliance reviews, and leading the annual Solid Waste Survey. Key Responsbilities Conducts solid waste and CDD PTI/licensing inspections, tracks compliance, reviews violations, and ensures corrective actions or abatements are completed. Serves as a point of contact for assigned programs, such as the D.U.M.P. (Dispose of Unused Medications Properly) and residential sharps programs. Responds to complaints about solid waste issues, investigates nuisances, and provides environmental information to the public. Applies professional judgment, scientific knowledge, and regulations to evaluate environmental hazards and enforce public health standards. Coordinates day-to-day program operations and assists in developing program goals, budgets, policies, procedures, and standard operating documents. Maintains cooperative relationships with community partners, attends local governance meetings, and participates in community-based organizations. Testifies in court as an expert witness and may attend administrative hearings as part of enforcement actions. Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in the sciences; Masters' degree is preferred. Must possess a minimum of 3 years related work experience. Maintenance of Registered Environmental Health Specialist credential from the Ohio Department of Health and 24 continuing education credits biennially. Current valid Ohio driver's license, automobile availability and insurance coverage.
