Job Summary: The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for reviewing, writing, and monitoring MNAA environmental permits. Other responsibilities include assisting with environmental audits, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and responds to and ensures proper cleanup of fuel, chemical, and other fluid spills. This position will be on 24-hour call and may be required to respond either telephonically or in-person, depending upon the incident's severity.
Essential Job Duties:
- Receives and reviews environmental permit requests for various MNAA projects.
- Monitors MNAA facilities to ensure permits are in place and up to date to meet regulatory requirements.
- Submits permit applications, plans and supporting documents to appropriate agencies for review and approval. Agencies may include Metro Water Service, Metro
- Health Department (MHD), Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
- Oversees National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit at MNAA facilities for compliance.
- Monitors active permits for compliance.
- Provides guidance to MNAA employees and contractors on permit requirements.
- Recommends plans of action to correct environmental related permit impacts as they arise and informs Leadership Team and internal business partners of issues within permit compliance.
- Maintains frequent and open lines of communication with key stakeholders and MNAA staff.
- Maintains environmental permit database.
- Identifies and reports construction problems related to environmental compliance to Construction Project Managers.
- Creates and prepares various administrative documents.
- Understands general construction principles and practices.
- Escorts regulatory inspectors and agency representatives during inspections, as necessary.
- Provides oversight and follow-up of any spill clean-up activities and acts as part of the MNAA Spill Response Team, as needed.
- Acts as an environmental first responder in the event of an incident.
- Coordinates various other tasks related to environmental stewardship and compliance.
- Attends meetings to maintain airport operation awareness, represents Environmental Team, as required.
- Follows all safety regulations.
- Maintains regular and on-time attendance.
- Participates in Environmental Team daily operations and responds to after-hour calls.
- Supports MNAA’s commitment to its culture and values, including Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence (RISE).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Environmental Regulations: Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements related to airport operations and environmental compliance.
- Driving: Skill in operating a motor vehicle.

- Computer Use: Skill in using a personal computer, the internet, and other software to perform job-related functions.
- Database Management: Skill in establishing and maintaining databases, spreadsheets, and other applicable computer software applications.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- 2-4 years' experience in permitting related field with Bachelor's Degree.
- Valid CLASS D Driver's License.
- OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification (within 180 days of hire)
- Tennessee Level I Erosion Protection and Sediment Control (EPSC) Certification (within 180 days of hire)
Preferred:
- Master's Degree in a related field.
- 2-4 years' experience in an environmental related field with a Bachelor's Degree.
