Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs EKG procedures according to previously defined procedures, and upon the request of a physician, the EKG Technician operates an electrocardiograph machine to record electromotive variations and impulses of the heart for use in the diagnosis of heart disorders. Performs EKG's and stress tests as needed. The EKG Technician conducts procedures using age-appropriate criteria on patients of a variety of ages, from infants to adults. He/she is responsible for demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients and be knowledgeable in recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect and cognizant of safety issues, both environmental and medical. The EKG Technician must be competent to obtain and perform studies with adults and geriatric patients. Finally, the EKG Technician is responsible for communicating instructions appropriately and adjusting procedures and instructions as appropriate to the developmental level of the patient.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or equivalent. Previous experience and knowledge in EKG testing procedures and knowledge or cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias. BLS Certification. Prefer some cardiography training. Basic Computer Skills.
