Special People In Northeast, Inc., located in Northeast Philadelphia, is a non-profit human services organization which was founded in 1970. The organization provides supports to individuals with mental, physical and sensorial disabilities as well as their families in a variety of ways. SPIN, Inc. assists over 2,000 infants, children and adults with various integrated activities including early childhood programs, residences, employment and support services. The organization’s hallmark is its determination to make available to its consumers an enriched world of experience that is supportive, inclusive and based on individual choice.

Position Mission Statement:

The SPIN Early Interventionist enhances a nurturing, supportive and developmentally appropriate environment to children and their families in a variety of settings. The interventionist supports each child and their family to develop the skills needed to make progress toward full participation in their inclusive community across all settings.

In the role of a SPIN, Inc. Early Interventionist you will be responsible for the following:

  • Directly support children and their families in a variety of settings.
  • Coordinate the assessment process by gathering information covering all developmental areas and informing families about what to expect throughout the assessment process.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to develop and implement each child’s individualized plan.
  • Educate team members, co-workers and community members about the individualized plan by providing information and positive support while maintaining standards of confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Utilize a variety of equipment, activities and opportunities appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of each child.
  • Actively participate in the team review of child’s outcomes by maintaining accurate records, collecting, compiling and evaluating data, and submitting records to appropriate sources in a timely fashion.
  • Discuss findings and recommendations with the team in a clear and understandable manner, following up on results as necessary.
  • Continue professional development and complete required training education/certification in accordance with SPIN and OCDEL.

Remuneration:

  • Payment is agreed upon per direct hour which includes direct therapy, face to face evaluations and attendance at IFSP team reviews.
  • Cancelled visits, travel, paperwork and other indirect time required according to policy and procedure is not billable.
  • Contractor is responsible for payment of income and self-employment taxes as well as any travel or other expenses.

Competencies include:

  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as an effective team member
  • Ability to self-direct in terms of scheduling in order to meet the needs of children/families assigned to caseload.

Requirements include:

  • Current PA license (therapist)
  • Bachelor degree in child care related field (special instructor)
  • Experience working with young children with developmental delays and their families.
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle and willingness to travel the Philadelphia, Bucks County, and Delaware County areas.

Additional required information:

  • Copy of professional liability
  • Copy of social security card
  • Copy of health appraisal and Mantoux test results dated within 12 months of start date
  • Current Pennsylvania criminal history record check, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint based criminal history record check and PA Child Abuse history clearance
  • Copy of completed Mandated Reporter training
  • Tax form W-9 and subcontractors certificate of non-indebtedness to the City of Philadelphia
