GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Perform moderately complex (journey-level) clerical, manual, inventory, and customer service work and some varied purchasing and machine operation work. Work involves acquiring, receiving, storing, and distributing parts, components, and capital equipment in a moderate-sized automotive maintenance, repair, and vehicle equipment make ready installation facility. Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Maintain, stock, and issue materials, equipment, supplies, merchandise, and other inventory.

2. Load and unload equipment and supplies.

3. Assist customers at the front counter, by mail, and phone selecting, distributing, and shipping parts and equipment; and verification of capital equipment transfers.

4. Maintain files and enter data into an inventory database and various logs.

5. Prepare, review, audit, and track purchase orders, requisitions, and other items.

6. Monitor and order bulk fuel.

7. Create, reconcile, and submit reports and spreadsheets for various processes.

8. Coordinate and document disposal of surplus property with various internal and external customers.

9. Research, prepare, update, and route product specifications with purchase packets and/or bid invitations for processing.

10. Reconcile physical, electronic, and hardcopy records to accurately identify materials and equipment on hand.

11. Prepare emergency and spot purchase orders; obtain open market bids and expedite delivery of purchased items.

12. Assist with maintaining perpetual inventory control on Fleet warehouse items.

13. Assist with training others.

14. May coordinate and document repair of law enforcement video cameras and communication equipment.

15. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.

Experience - A minimum of one (1) year of verifiable work experience in receiving, storing, and distributing durable goods in a retail, wholesale, or similar warehousing or marketing facility. Experience in the automotive industry is preferred.

Substitution Note: Additional education, beyond the required high school or equivalent, may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Licensure and/or Certification - If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

Regulatory Knowledge - Knowledge of agency practices, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of the processes of recording the activities of materials acquisition, storage and distribution. Some knowledge of automotive or electronic parts and/or assemblies. Knowledge of and the ability to effectively apply statutes, rules, and regulations applicable to purchasing in state agencies.

Equipment Knowledge/Skills - Operate a standard forklift, pallet jack, two-wheel dollies, and carts preferred.

Interpersonal Skills - Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

Organizational and Prioritization Skills - Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.

Presentation/Communication Skills - Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.

Research and Comprehension - Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail - Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.

Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) - Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Confidentiality and Protected Information - Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.

Safety - Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.

Travel and/or Schedule - Availability for after-hour and weekend work is required.

TESTING REQUIRED:

Applicant will be required to demonstrate lifting abilities around fifty (50) pounds at the time of interview, HR-99A release form required.

State of Texas Benefits and Retirement Information:

DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group and state title will be transferred with no salary change.

A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.

Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
