GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Marketing & Communications provides leadership for the marketing, communications and engagement functions for Whitney Young Health and Equinox, its sister agency. The Director builds strategic alliances and relationships with external stakeholders that will result in successful collaborations, marketing, public relations, communications and advocacy efforts. Provides counsel to Chief Development Officer, senior leadership and the Board of Directors on marketing, public relations and communications best practice and strategies to promote the organization and the services we provide to the communities we serve. Also supports the Chief Development Officer by coordinating day-to-day operations of the Development & Marketing office and teams, for both WYH and Equinox. Additionally, this position oversees WYH's volunteer recruitment efforts.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning & Management
•Work with the Chief Development Officer to develop the strategic role of both marketing, including general communications, and development/fundraising within the long- and short-term goals of WYH and Equinox.
•Work with the Chief Development Officer to develop and implement short-and-long-term plans for the fulfillment of marketing, external engagement, and fundraising goals, monitor progress and evaluate performance.
•Work with the Chief Development Officer in establishing appropriate benchmarks and evaluate cost-effectiveness of marketing, engagement, and fundraising programs and components; and in developing and monitoring annual strategic objectives for the department's role in WYH's Strategic Report Card and Equinox Strategic Plan.
•Assure that effective and relevant policies and procedures are documented and in place that provide for the maintenance of efficient systems for monitoring communications, engagement efforts and administrative support functions associated with those efforts.
•Develop and direct planned programs of community relations and engagement to gain acceptance and support of WYH and Equinox.
•Provide leadership to, and monitor, the organization's volunteer program.
•Work with Chief Development Officer to hire, develop, evaluate and lead departmental staff members as they support efforts to enhance the well-being of WYH and Equinox and their patients and clients.
Board Development and Community Engagement
•Develop current board member profiles including strengths and expertise.
•Work with Chief Development Officer to identify ideal board composition and develop a strategic recruitment plan.
•Identify, cultivate and recommend community leaders to Chief Development Officer to bring forward to CEO and Development & Nominating Committee as to potential board and/or committee members who will assist with outreach and engagement projects.
•Assist CEO, Chief Development Officer, and board chair in retention, recruitment and training of board members.
•Work with Chief Development Officer to provide support systems and resources to board members that will enable them to engage external collaborators and potential supporters of missions and services of both WYH and Equinox.
•Work with Chief Development Officer to guide, advise and staff the Development & Nominating Committee, a Committee of the Corporation, as needed.
•Work with Chief Development Officer to develop and manage cultivation and stewardship programs designed to build relations between WYH and Equinox, and stakeholders and the community at large.
•Assist the staff in preparing compelling proposals, case statements, and other education materials designed to support the missions of WYH and Equinox.
•Assist Chief Development Officer in providing support to the Grant Consultant in the development of funding proposals for government/public entities and private funding sources.
Marketing and Communications
•Coordinate and oversee the production of publications and other communication vehicles that are consistent with the organization's brand, image and message, as well as reinforce standards for consistency, appropriateness, and quality of both copy and design.
•Effectively work with outside consultants/vendors, members of the program and clinical staff, medical staff, Boards of Directors, administration, and other organizational stakeholders to involve them in the development and execution of the WYH marketing plan.
•Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of agencies' websites by supporting the Digital Marketing & Communications Specialist.
•Oversee the agencies' social media efforts and monitoring engagement in those efforts by supporting the Digital Marketing & Communications Specialist.
•Support Chief Development Officer with media inquiries and outreach.
•Serve as an ambassador for WYH and Equinox, and act as a representative in the community, and within regional, statewide and/or national organizations.
•Work in partnership with the Chief Development Officer to develop a crisis management plan as it relates to appropriately communicating with staff, stakeholders and the public prior to, or simultaneously with, media notification of an "event or incident".
•Remain current on public policy issues affecting WYH and/or Equinox.
Miscellaneous
•Demonstrates excellence in both internal and external customer service.
•Understands and is able to effectively communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance and client confidentiality.
•Complies with local, state, and federal regulations that apply to this role and its relationship to WYH's status as an FQHC and a NYS Article 28 and Article 32 provider, and that applies to Equinox as a human services agency
•Adheres to the National Patient Safety Goals as defined by the Joint Commission and Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Center.
•Completes other duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors' degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a communications and marketing role. Prior experience in a nonprofit setting. Advanced MS Office Suite skills. Familiarity with other publishing software and social media platforms. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior supervisory experience. Prior experience in a health care and/or human services organization. Some knowledge of and experience in development/fundraising.
