Job Description

Professional, technical and administrative work utilizing a variety of research methods and techniques to identify and analyze raw information for the purpose of substantiating criminal patterns and/or trends and predictive analysis. Work includes correlating, integrating, and evaluating varying types of information from investigative activities for the purpose of generating investigative leads, and prepares reports to document investigative activities and summarize findings. The position will also support the development and management of internal management data products as well as ad-hoc data analysis and related work as directed. Incumbents will disseminate and communicate these findings to NOPD Command-Staff as well as supervisors and officers; and related work as required. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in a field requiring quantitative and/or qualitative research including science, social science, economics, public administration, information technology, or other research-oriented disciplines. Two (2) years of professional experience conducting research and/or evaluations including quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis; producing written reports that include conclusions drawn from the analyses and/or evidence compiled; and using technology such as Word, Excel, and/or Access to organize, analyze, and present data and evidence. If appointed, employees in this classification are required to successfully complete a proficiency assessment during their probationary period. No probationary period may last longer than one year. Failure to successfully complete these requirements during the probationary period will result in termination or demotion. NOTE : Pay above the minimum for superior qualifications may be granted under Civil Service Commission Rule IV Sec. 2.7 based on a review of the applicant pool, candidate's verified experience, education, and/or possession of related certifications. A written exam, weighted 100%. BACKGROUND CHECK: The hiring department will conduct interviews of qualified individuals prior to requesting a criminal background check, and no job application submitted prior to such interview shall inquire into an applicant’s criminal history. If this position is subject to a background check for any convictions related to its responsibilities and requirements, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history. WORKING TEST PERIOD: Effective August 1, 2023, the working test (probationary) period for all positions in the classified service is one year. Candidates for employment for certain positions where the health, welfare and/or safety of the public, co-workers and the individual employee is at risk will have to undergo pre-employment substance abuse screening. Candidates for all other original entrance positions will have to undergo an unannounced substance abuse screening during their working test period. GOOD MORAL CHARACTER: is required of all applicants. Any applicant may be disqualified if his/her character or past employment record is found to be unsatisfactory as determined by the Department of City Civil Service. IMPORTANT: Applicants who are licensed to drive should have a current license on their person for purposes of identification during all phases of an examination.
