Role Overview

As Chief of Staff to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), you will be the CAOs strategic partnerdriving operational excellence across HR, Legal, Strategic Procurement, Workplace, Internal Events and Talent Enablement. Youll streamline high-impact initiatives, optimize our operating rhythm, and ensure the CAO can focus on shaping policies and programs that empower our people and protect our organization. Who You Are

  • Strategic Partner to the CAO:

    • Trusted confidant and advisor to the CAO - helping think through complex strategic and personnel decisions and make tough choices and ensure they are executed upon.

    • Ability to disseminate information and communicate ideas on behalf of the CAO to internal and external stakeholders.

    • History of taking control of day-to-day operations and processes to create more time for the CAO to focus on strategic business needs.

    • Strategic thinker, excellent problem solver, and first-class communicator.

  • Excellent Operator:

    • Ability to lead and drive timely execution of business-critical and cross-functional strategic initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

    • Seamlessly break down large and complex concepts into actionable tasks and steps.

    • Experience setting an operational cadence to promote alignment and knowledge-sharing across the company.

  • Clear Communicator:

    • Track record of effectively communicating, influencing and driving alignment across multiple functions.

What Youll Do

  • Drive process improvements, alignment and knowledge sharing across the CAO leadership team and functions to ensure operational efficiency and execution of key results.

  • Project manage CAO organization-wide projects and initiatives; bring together stakeholders and help drive decisions and action.

  • Lead the annual strategic planning process for the CAOs organization, collaborating with Finance and the CAO functions to develop roadmaps, budgets, and resource plans.

  • In partnership with appropriate team members, develop internal and external agendas for team meetings and offsites, and oversee logistics, as needed.

  • Triage and manage competing priorities for the CAO: synthesize complex inputs, frame decision options, and surface key insights to inform executive-level choices.

  • Develop and/or document internal processes for communications, operations and other organizational needs with appropriate team members.

  • Conduct ad-hoc analysisusing analytical toolsto diagnose operational challenges and recommend tailored, scalable solutions.

  • Work closely with the Executive Administrative Partner to ensure the appropriate management of the CAOs calendar, prioritizing tasks and meetings in alignment with organizational goals.

  • Serve as a key liaison between the CAO, senior internal stakeholders, and external partnersadapting your communication style to build trust and accelerate decision-making.

What Youll Bring

  • Bachelors degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.

  • Proven track record managing complex projects or programs end-to-end, with expertise in establishing systems to track progress and accountability.

  • Strong familiarity with AI-enabled tools and willingness to champion AI adoption across administrative functions.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong analytical capabilities: comfortable building dashboards, interpreting data trends, and presenting actionable recommendations.

  • Demonstrated commitment to honesty, ethical conduct, and maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality.

  • Passion for OpenGovs mission of powering more effective and accountable government

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience advising senior executives in technology-driven enterprises, global law firms, top-tier management consulting practices, or real estate development firms

  • Proven track record implementing and optimizing HRIS, legal-matter management platforms, and/or workplace-management systems to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.

  • Deep expertise in operational best practices, goal-setting frameworks (e.g., OKRs), and performance-management systems that drive accountability and measurable outcomes.

Compensation:

San Francisco, CA: $130,000 - $150,150

On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.

The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidates geographical location.
