Job Title:

Autonomous Vehicle Test Driver

Type of Position:

This is a contract position with an initial 6-month duration. This has a good chance of extending longer and may lead to direct hire employment long term for candidates with good performance in the role.

Candidate Requirements:

Job Location:

This role will be based at a major Lucid Motors facility in Newark, CA.

Compensation:

$23.25/hr to start. Overtime is paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate for any hours worked over 40 per week.

Benefits:

•Available (medical, dental, 401k, vision, etc) – benefit eligibility begins the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.

•This role will be eligible for 5 days PTO (which accrue over time). Upon transitioning to a direct hire capacity, you would receive much more extensive PTO.

HRU Technical Resources is partnering with a global service provider to the automotive and component supply industry. We are actively seeking skilled and safety-focused Autonomous Vehicle Test Drivers to support cutting-edge testing operations with Lucid Motors at their high-tech facility in Newark, CA. In this role, you'll play a critical part in the development and validation of next-generation self-driving technology. Working as part of a cross-functional team, you'll help ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of advanced autonomous driving systems – driving real vehicles on real roads. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Highway Testing: Operate autonomous vehicles on designated highway routes in shifts with a co-driver, assessing and validating the performance of autonomous driving systems under a variety of driving conditions.

•Monitor Vehicle Behavior: Remain consistently alert during testing to observe the autonomous system’s behavior, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards.

•Monitor Vehicle Health: Ensure the test vehicle is in proper and safe working condition daily. Report necessary maintenance or repairs to workshop staff.

•Data Collection: Initiate and monitor vehicle logging equipment. Ensure proper data collection and tag/annotate logged data with specified edge cases. Handle data collection disks.

•Training: Successfully complete a rigorous internal training program and stay updated on program regulations and requirements.

•Execute Test Plans: Follow predefined protocols to evaluate the capabilities and limitations of autonomous driving technology on highways.

•Troubleshooting: Identify, document, and report any system issues, bugs, malfunctions, or environmental challenges during testing. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical problems and enhance system performance.

•Documentation: Maintain thorough records of test procedures, results, and observations. Prepare detailed reports summarizing testing activities, findings, and recommendations.

•Collaboration: Partner with engineers, developers, and researchers to provide insights and feedback, contributing to the optimization of autonomous driving technology.

•Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines, including adherence to traffic laws and emergency protocols.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

•Minimum 3 years of professional driving experience, including extensive highway driving in the Newark, CA area.

•Successful completion of internal operator training program.

•Proficiency with personal computers and productivity software (Microsoft Office).

•Must be in good health, able to maintain vigilance and focus for two-hour uninterrupted blocks. Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate required throughout employment.

•Excellent driving skills with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Thorough understanding of local traffic laws and safety practices.

•Experience in testing or operating autonomous vehicles highly desirable.

•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting technical issues.

• Detail-oriented, capable of collecting and analyzing data accurately.

•Proficient verbal and written English skills for effective reporting and collaboration.

•Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong self-motivation and accountability.

•Flexibility to adjust to changing project priorities and requirements.

•Availability to work flexible hours, which may include weekends and evenings as required for testing (this will also depend on the shift assigned).

•High school diploma or GED is required at a minimum.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

• Prior experience with autonomous vehicle operation / testing (especially ADAS experience).

•Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area is great to have (not required)

•Additional technical education or certifications are great to have (not required).

Work Environment / Other Info:

•We have various shifts available as follows: 1st shift – 4:00am to 12:00pm, 2nd shift early – 12:00pm to 8:00pm, 2nd shift late – 4:00pm to 12:00am, 3rd shift – 8:00pm to 4:00am

•Overtime is paid at time and a half (1.5x) for hours worked beyond 40 per week.

•Offers may be contingent on a background check and drug screen (including cannabis) as a part of the hiring process.

•ALL candidates will be required to have an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) check performed. Offers will be contingent on passing this check.
