Job Description and Duties

Under supervision of the Research Scientist Supervisor II (Veterinary Sciences), the incumbent performs non-professional assignments of average difficulty and is primarily computer-based with the limited possibility of field work. Current team members predominantly work remotely with regular in-office days. Specifically, the incumbent must be able to perform reviews of scientific literature to identify relevant information related to animal health and safety; antimicrobial drug use and resistance for various livestock species; and animal husbandry practices that may be applicable to California livestock producers. Additionally, the incumbent must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, work independently under the guidance of AUS staff, and make appropriate decisions to complete assignments/meet deadlines.

  • Aid with the development of AUS program outreach and educational materials

  • Design and execute routine projects to fulfill team objectives, including summaries of current relevant scientific news and maintain an Access database to help with coordinating stakeholder outreach

  • Be able to complete assignments that have been identified through gap analyses conducted by AUS staff

  • Identify, read and review published scientific literature

  • Create, develop and review informational bulletins related to antimicrobial stewardship and resistance in animal production, both nationally and abroad

  • Organize and manage literature databases.

  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

If you are pursuing veterinary school or exploring employment options with your Agriculture, Biology, or Animal Science degree, this is a unique, hybrid telework opportunity to build valuable skills and receive mentorship within a dynamic field. Although this position is based in downtown Sacramento, hours are flexible and can be negotiated around your commitments (i.e., your school schedule). Additionally, regular or recurring telework may occur as part of your ongoing work schedule in accordance with CDFA’s Telework Policy.
