Job Summary The Activity Director is responsible for the quality of the activity programs offered in the facility. This includes developing, planning, and monitoring programs such as recreational activities, crafts, religious services, intellectual, educational and community activities, and 1:1 visits. The Activity Director maintains adequate supplies for programs within standards and budgetary allowances. The Activity Director is responsible for initiating and maintaining in-service requirements for activity assistants. Role and Responsibilities Below are the roles and responsibilities that the Activity Director is expected to fulfill to help facilitate quality, patient-centered care in the facility: Supervise and direct the daily activities of the activity staff. Prepare monthly schedule of all programs offered. Maintain current, accurate records of resident participation schedules, resource material and other statistical information. Evaluates the program and surveys residents periodically to make changes and additions that ensure the recreational needs of the residents are being met. Participates in care conferences as needed. Monitors and evaluates staff performance and provides disciplinary action as necessary. Ensure that activity assessments and program meets federal, state, and JCAHO guidelines. Ensure activity staff are in-serviced on policies, procedures, and facility protocols. Maintain knowledge of and adherence to facility's abuse, emergency, HIPAA, and infection control policies and procedures. Assist with the development of the activity budget. Monitor expenses to ensure adherence to established budgets. Follow up on consultant reports and establish rapport and good working relationship with consultants. Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate per facility protocol. Assure that residents who wish to vote are qualified to vote in all elections. Observe, record and report resident responses/changes to nursing department. Establish rapport with residents to encourage involvement in activities program. Responsible for the recruitment, training, and utilizing of volunteers to best meet the needs of the residents. Other duties as assigned. Education and other Requirements High school graduate Minimum one year of experience working in a long-term care facility. Strong communication, organizations, and leadership skills. Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in collaboration with others.
